What happened ?!
For the first time this series, I saw not a ball bowled last night. I was out at a work dinner and missed everything. It looks to me from the score that it was a case of honours even. What does everyone think ? Come on, put a comment on this post and let me know (even if you have never done so before !). Also, add a comment and let me know what you thought of Tait.
Here is an overview that helped me understand the day. More no balls and dropped catches I see. Geoffry Boycott is starting to make a little more sense in his old age (Note how we cunningly made up a new title for the article though) . Even the normally up beat Jim Maxwell (australian radio commentator on the tour and broadcasting with the BBC) seems a little downcast.
Australia's bowling worries me a little. Warne has a bad back, McGrath a bad ankle and elbow and Gillespie was too bad to continue. In a wonderful piece of wordsmithery, Jason blames his form on a temporary loss of his Mojo (yes serioulsy, the same Mojo that Austin Powers lost). I can't help feeling like I am watching a b grade soap opera play out here.
I said the white flag was up when Katich bowled. It is being waved around wildly when Ponting bowls.
More cricket tomorrow.

Yes, it was a pretty even day I reckon. England definitely on top to begin with, and even the loss of Strauss was a fluke and not a great cause for concern (re: the bowling). I didn't even know that Ponting could bowl so to see him take the prize scalp of Vaughan was even more shocking. The England captain will not be pleased about that i'm sure!
The weather forecast for today is much better though, so less interrruptions I hope. With Pieterson and Flintoff at the crease then we could be in for an exciting session. If we can see some of the restraint that Flintoff showed at Edgebaston, then these two should be able to steady the ship and help us towards a decent score.
Tait looked pretty good - definitely a few nerves to begin with but after taking the first wicket he looked more comfortable (all to be expected) and looked well worthy of his place. Definitely seemed to be the "danger man".
From an England perspective this is simply a dream come true. For most of my life as a follower of the national side, a performance like this has simply been impossible to imagine.
We've showed strength with the bat and our bowling attack is simply the best in the world right now. The way our bowlers have got results on a pitch that the Aussies were struggling to do anything with speaks volumes. The fact that we have bowlers to suit all occasions has really benefitted us. As Gilchrist himself described them - "they hunt in a pack". Case in point, it was great to see Hoggard back in action in conditions ideally suited for his style of bowling.
This is all the more satisfying given the early "wobble" in the first test at Lords.
The other major plus is the gripping effect this is having on the nation - kids and their families are playing cricket in the park, the football players are hiding, alomst guiltily, in the corner! For my money, no football match or competition has ever come even close in prolonged drama as this series.
I'm back.
Thanks to Stewart for the great updates.
Its looking good for England.
Someone should have a word with Mr Ponting. He's just had a strop for being run out, worse than my little girl if you tell her she can't have some chocolate!
I think he's trying to deflect some blame for a generally poor performance onto anyone but himself.
